Some advice please :-)

Post by ladybird » Fri Mar 18, 2011 11:15 am

Ciao a tutti

I'm technologically challenged, hence the following question.

I want to be able to record myself speaking in Italian, maybe reading some articles etc. This is something that I didn't get much chance to practise when I had lessons and I am extremely nervous about speaking on Skype..I always panic and my mind goes blank.

A good friend recently told me thnat they hate the sound of their own voice and I'm exactly the same..it's something that I need to tackle otherwise I won't ever have courage to talk!

Any suggestions on how I can do recordings, preferably so that I can send them to someone else as well for comment?
Something simple would be ideal so I look forward to your suggestions.

Grazie in anticipo :)

Audacity is a great program to use and I use it myself. I think everyone hates the sound of their own voice - I know I do (well my recent contributions to shoutbox may make you doubt that :) ) but after a while you do get used to it.

Talking on Skype can be nerve-wracking to begin with, but again, it's something you get used to.

Hi ladybird :) Why don't you record your "italian voice" with audacity ( it's such a great audio recorder ) and post the recording here at Impariamo ? :)

Once you have saved your record file ,you can upload it through this very useful site http://www.2shared.com/ : when the upload is finished it will show you the link you need to post (by clicking it we will be able to download it freely).

I think this should be good for you to "rompere il ghiaccio" ;)

For those on a Mac, GarageBand, which ships with your Mac as part of the iLife suite is a great alternative to using Audacity :) Just start a project using the Voice template. Exporting as a 32kbps mono VBR MP3 will be more than adequate for voice-only and the file-size should be small.

I have got a Mac, but not Garageband. Peccato.

I still have the latest snow leopard , but I didn't install on my Mini.

Love Apple!
