need Help from Italian natives

Post by lilipones » Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:29 pm

Could anyone please translate the following sentences into Italian?
"I am not sure why you are so curious about me. As I said my father's job involved traveling around the world. I was in France as well as Germany for two and three years respectively when I was only 9. "

Thanks

I would translate:

Non so perché tu sia così / tanto curioso. Come ho detto, il lavoro di mio padre lo portava a viaggiare per il mondo. Quando avevo soltanto 9 anni ero in Francia da due (anni) e in Germania da tre (anni).

I would leave out “rispettivamente” (respectively) though.

That said, “Quando avevo soltanto 9 anni ero in Francia da due (anni) e in Germania da tre (anni).” does not make much sense in Italian. The tense is wrong. It should be: “Quando avevo soltanto 9 anni ero già stata / stato [much better: avevo già vissuto / abitato] in Francia due anni e in Germania tre.”
