I am having trouble understanding why in the following sentence the possessive adjective “sua” is not preceded by the definite article:
Ogni studente deve descrivere a sua scelta o una persona, o un animale, o un oggetto usando minimo cinque aggettivi.
Each student must describe of his choice either a person, or an animal, or an object using a minimum of five adjectives.
I am wondering why the author of this sentence did not include the definite article before the possessive adjective and write the following:
Ogni studente deve descrivere alla sua scelta o una persona, o un animale, o un oggetto usando minimo cinque aggettivi.
I have checked on-line and in many reference books and just cannot find an explanation. I would really appreciate any possible help. Thank you!
