Buongiorno Tutti

Post by lc1102002 » Sun Aug 01, 2010 2:16 pm

Hello everyone..

Mi chiamo Lisa.... sono della New York

As you can see I am very new to learning Italian. and probably even blundered those two tiny sentences. I'm planning a trip to Italy this fall and was hoping to pick up a bit of the language before I go. Im terribly confused but having fun learning. Awful confused between when to use stare and when to use essere. Perhaps I should have said Vengo della New York??
Anyway nice to meet you all.

Benvenuta, Lisa!

Referring to your place of origin, use "di" alone. So, you would say "sono di NY".
On the other hand, if you're in Florence, having just arrived by train from Pisa, you would use "da" when saying "I just arrived from Pisa". (Sono appena arrivata da Pisa).

Buon viaggio in Italia!
Slainte e cent'anni a tutti!
