Clocks go forward / back

Post by ladybird » Sun Oct 28, 2007 9:25 pm

Ciao a tutti

I know that we had a discussion on this subject ages ago but I can't find the thread.

Which is the correct term to describe when the clocks go / forward or back at the start and end of summer?

Grazie

In Italian

spostare l'ora in avanti
to turn the clocks ahead

spostare l'ora indietro
to turn the clocks back

The clocks have been changed to:

dall'ora legale all'ora solare

The most common expression is:

Spostare (in) avanti/spostare indietro le lancette dell'orologio/degli orologi

Yesterday on the news they kept reminding us to "spostare indietro di un'ora le lancette (dell'orologio)".

You will also here "mettere avanti/indietro" instead of "spostare".

Spring forward in the Spring, Fall back in the Fall.
