position of italian adverbs sentence

Post by quasidavid »

ciao tutti :-)

I m learning italian and I got confused a bit about the posision of adverbs in sentence. Are there always more possibilities where to put the adverb?

for example:

Sempre io faccio colazione.
Io sempre faccio colazione.
Io faccio sempre colazione.

Is all that right?

What about negative sentences?

for example:

Io talvolta non dormo bene.
Io non dormo talvolta bene.
Talvolta non dormo bene.

I will be thankful for every remark.

Ciao david (or almost!)

1 Io faccio sempre colazione.

2 Io non dormo talvolta bene.

although the personal pronoun is not necessary, unless you wish to emphathise that it is you and not someone else who is always having breakfast, or have problems sleeping!! :) :)

Sempre always follows the verb. This link will take you to an excellent website; the link is specific to adverbs: http://www.gwc.org.uk/ModernLang/hotpot ... verbs.html.

ciao David, ti metto un asterisco accanto a quello che non vorrei mai sentire come italiana, ma adesso non so spiegarti bene il perchè:
Sempre io faccio colazione. *
Io sempre faccio colazione. *
Io faccio sempre colazione.

Is all that right?

What about negative sentences?

for example:

Io talvolta non dormo bene.
Io non dormo talvolta bene. *
Talvolta non dormo bene.

Concordo con Peter sull'uso del pronome (io) e in generale devo dire che le regole esistono, ma a volte le esigenze di enfasi, le mandano in pezzi!
