Is this the correct format to write?

15,50 – quindici e cinquanta OR quindici virgola cinquanta
13.800 – tredicimilaottocento
401.396 – quattrocentounomilatrecentonovantasei

Where should I put the spaces?

Sono tutti e tre corretti.
Per il primo caso si usano effettivamente entrambe le forme :)

Try writing 444,444 in full. It is the longest string of letters in the Italian language!

In Italian, when writing any number in full you do not include any spaces - unlike in English. :)

Attenzione che in italiano

13.800 sarebbe meglio scriverlo 13'800
Il separatore delle migliaia è in alto :-)
Se vi fa piacere anche noi impazziamo con le notazioni numeriche
e le date ....
Il separatore basso . o , lo usiamo indistintamente per i decimali :
3,5 = 3.5 = tre virgola cinque oppure , più sinteticamente, "3 e 5" o ancora 3 e mezzo
3'500 = 3500 = tremila e cinquecento
