1) Questions that can be answered Yes or No often use the same
phrasing and word order as declarative sentences.

Ex. Desidera qualcosa da mangiare. He wants something to eat.
Desidera qualcosa da mangiare? Does he want something to eat.

There are three possible ways to signal that such sentences are

a) by using rising intonations at the end of the question.

Ex. Preferisci un caffe'? Do you prefer a coffee?

b) by adding a tag phrase like "non e' vero? or no?"

Ex. Il caffe' chiude a mezzanotte, no? The cafe closes at midnight,no?

c) by naming the subject (noun or pronoun) at the end of the question
instead of of in its normal position at the beginning of the sentence.

Ex. Prendono qualcosa i signori? Sirs, Will you take something?

2. Questions that ask for specific information are introduced by
interrogative words. The subject if stated, usually follows the verb.

a) come? how? Come stai? How are you?
b) che cosa?, che?, cosa? what? Che cosa fai lunedi sera?
What are you doing Monday night?

*** Che, che cosa, and cosa are interchangable. They all mean what?
They never change in form (singular or plural)

c) chi? who? Chi va la cinema?
Who is going to the cinema?
d) dove? where? Dove vai con gli amici?
Where are you going with your friends?

e)quando? when? Quando comincia la partita?
When does the game begin?
f)quale/i? which? Quale film desideri vedere?
Which film do you wish/want to see?
g) quanto/a? how much? Quanto costano i biglietti?
How much do the tickets cost?
h) quanti/e? how many? Quanti anni hai?
How old are you?
i) perche'? why? Perche' non andiamo insieme?
Why don't we go together?
3. The interrogative adjectives Quale?and Quanto? agree in gender and
number with the nouns they modify.

Ex. Quanto tempo abbiamo?
How much time do we have?
Quanti studenti ci sono nella tua classe?
How many students are there in your class?
Quale universita' frequenti?
Which university do you go to?
Quali corsi segui?
Which course are you taking?
Quanta minestra vuoi?
How much minestrone/soup do you want?
Quante patate mangi?
How many potatoes are you eating?

Interrogative adjectives allow us to ask questions about nouns. These
adjectives always come before the noun.
Examples using Quale / Quali

Qual e' il suo indirizzo?
Which is his address?
Qual e' la data del suo compleanno?
Which is the date od his birthday?
Quali lingue parlano in Francia?
Which languages do tey speak in France?
In quale secolo e' nato Leonardo Da Vinci?
In which century was Leonardo Da Vinci?
Quali macchine hai comprato?
Which cars have you bought?

Example using Che, che cosa, or cosa

Cosa fareste voi in queste situazioni?
What will you do in these situations?
Che fai?
What do you do? or what are you doing?
Che cosa hai mangiato?
What have you eaten?
Che libro leggi?
What book are you reading?
Che cosa ha comprato, Simon?

I hope this is helpful.
