Adolescenti

Post by ladybird »

Buon giorno a tutti

I have some more homework to do (don't ask, it's a nightmare)!

What I would like to know is:

I'm fairly certain that the translation of "teenagers" is "adolescenti"

Would I also use "adolescenti" if I'm speaking of teenage girls only, or would I need to use something else?

Sorry for writing in English this morning, but I'm in a hurry.

Grazie

Yes, Ladybird, you can use adolescenti for girls: le adolescenti. The article will indicate the gender.
You could also use ragazze, in a more colloquial way.

Oh, I was under the impression it'd change the ending to -e ... so therefore I'm guessing the singular is ... adolescente ... I'll go look it up.. yes

It also says that "teenager" (the English way) is also a translation, what's used more?

Ciao Alex! Benvenuto!

Teenager=adolescente

But I think you could also say:

Gli adolescenti preferiscono mangiare patatine fritte invece dell'insalata.

I ragazzi preferiscono mangiare patatine fritte invece dell'insalata.

I giovani preferiscono...

I use the word "adolescente" with caution, since i'm a Psychology student and for us the "adolescenza" period means something more than "beeing XXteen" so I say "ragazzi/e". Or 15enni, 20enni etc.

Ciao Ember

I'm hoping to write about how teenagers of today perceive the idea of beauty, as regards to body image.

I think I need divine intervention, I don't know how I got lumbered with this one.. :(

From what you've said, I think adolescenti fits the bill.

I'll be back..

Of course, thanks Elisa and ciao Alex! :)
